10-23-11

yay, im all caught up. That wasnt too hard. ive finished almost all of the worksheets as well and i plan to turn them in at the beginning of class today. i still have a like one while lab to finish but other than that im in good shape. im glad we've moved into work i have yet to learn. im am sad though that in a press for time i had to abandon my efforts on getting the string letter remover lab to work the way i was trying to make it work, i would have been proud if i had gotten it to work that way. this boolean logic is fun though, stuff i already know so thats nice.

10-16-11

yay for loops, fun stuff. i like making infinite, or as the case may be with for loops, seemingly infinite loops. i spent off of class one day watching a loop count it's way until it jumped from an extremely high number to an extremely negative number. after that happened i programed it to print out a bunch of binary counting up and that was also really cool to watch because you could see the changes to the individual ones and zeros as they happened but it was really quick. i think the next thing, while loops, may be the first thing we will learned that i dont know yet.

10-9-11

we may have still been working on if's at this point but also doing stuff with the switch case. i dont think i ever got that so im going to need that explained to me because i dont understand how the switch case stuff works. im really excited to see my grade jump from a 53 back to passing. i really liked that if lab where you had to make the mouse leave dots where you clicked. Even though it was mostly coded already it was fun seeing how it all working and looking at what you could change and what it would do, it was a good trial and error process. I at one point ended up making it so the magic box you were supposed to click in took up the background of whatever was behind it and that was amusing.

10-3-11

well honestly im not sure what we were working on on october 3rd but i think it may have been if's. that would make sense because i finished all of the if stuff in like one day and then sat back and relaxed for the other 2 days we had to work on them. i probably should have spent that time catching up like i am now but it's no big deal. i think im going to take computer programing next year, so i'd like to learn more about what that class is about. I have had some thoughts about taking linear algebra as well next year because from what ive heard it's very strongly tied to computer science.

Reflection 9/18/11

I'M MY BLOG EARLY!
I dont think ive ever done one of my blogs early.
im really enjoying comp-sci, i like amping up the labs and making them harder than they need to be, i enjoy the challenge, like with the Rectangle and Cube labs, i added an input part so it would calculate the perimeter or the surface area, respectively, of the dimensions you entered for the rectangle or cube. i really feel like i might consider a career in Computer Science. It combines math/algebra and computer, both of which fascinate me. I think i will take your Computer Programing class next year. On a completely unrelated note im going to ACL this weekend. Im not super excited cause there's only one band i REALLY wanna see but i have a 3 day pass so i figure i will enjoy it while i can. I really wanna see Death From Above 1979 on Sunday and since i have the pass im going to go see Stevie Wonder and Chromeo and Skrillex on Saturday. Im not sure who else ill end up seeing but those are the major ones im looking forward to.

Reflection 9/11/11

Today is a sad day. 10 years ago a terrible event happened that i couldnt even comprehend because i was in first grade at the time. It wasnt till i was in fourth grade when i really realized what happened. I morn for those who lost friends and family on that day. i am blessed to not have know anyone who was in the twin towers or on any of the planes that day. moving on to a comp-sci related note, all we're doing in class is still just review for me, which i am ok with. I have not had trouble with any of the labs yet and i try to go out of my way to make them a little more difficult then they have to be for a bit of a challenge. Like on the Big House lab i looked up how to make a polygon so i could put a triangular roof on my house as well as i made a man standing in the window of the house.

Reflection 9/4/11 redo

You have got to be kidding me. i just wrote like a page and a half long post and when i hit publish post it deletes all of this. thats so dumb. i spent good time on that post and now i have to redo it. anyway im liking the year so far. its not too hard. I am glad i took regular comp sci as a pre-requisite to this class because that is making things so much easier. i can do all of the labs in like a minute because ive done most of them before. i cant remember if i leaned if-statements in java last year but i re taught myself because i was bored the other day and i wanted to use them on the imput lab. I set up the imput lab so that when it started it would prompt you by saying "say "yes" if you're ready to begin" and if you said anything other than yes it would say "wrong imput" and end the program. if you said yes though it would continue on like the lab was set up to. i also added a bit about strings in it for fun. most of my other classes arent to bad either. i think ill struggle most in US history. delta and art I should be a piece of cake.

05/15 Reflect

Ahh this was a good weekend. I went to the Theater Banquet and stayed for the lock in and didnt sleep all night and that was tons of fun then didnt do anything Saturday and hung out with friends and did homework on sunday. Im really liking app inventor but apparently i missed one of the labs. The Paris Map Tour? i need to make that up cause i dont want a zero for it. Summer is so close i can taste it.

05/08 Reflect

Man this week has been tough. I have so many projects to work on. Mr. Sharp gave us 5 projects for english alone! Then i have a 10 page Great Ideas paper to write, a History documentary to make and fuel efficient car commercial to film for Chemistry. Once this week is over though it should get easier, the due dates will be more spread out. I have like 4 major things due this week, its killing me. I cant wait for summer to be here.

04/24 reflect

App inventor is starting to get a little harder but its not too bad. Im not sure if want to take AP Comp Sci next year or Comp Sci II. If i take AP im going to be loaded down with alot of work because ill have 4 APs. I hear the Comp Sci AP is pretty hard too. That plus the Latin 4 AP, US History AP, and the English AP, and BC pre cal im going to be pretty weighed down. If you have any advice on what i should do please tell me.

04/17 reflect

My birthday is tomorrow and im starting to like appinventor. It's pretty cool and i think it could be useful later in life. It reminds me of scratch though, i miss scratch. It was so simple and fun. Appinventor would also be nice to know how to use because my family might switch our cellphone service and i might get a droid, then i could make my own apps.

Although this week has been a pretty good week, im sad that spring break is over and im back in school. The beginning of the week i had tons of homework, and at the end i had very little but over the weekend im back up to tons. Im ready for it to be summer, only 10 more weeks, 47 more days to be exact. Im counting down. Im having no trouble keeping up with the ideas presented in Python. I enjoy programing, its much more fun than english or world history. I do enjoy math above anything else. If i could, i would choose to do math every class rather than anything else. But thats not the case, sadly.

I'm pretty psyched for this coming week with field day and all. I also get to have this class 3 times during the week which i like. I feel pretty confident with what we're doing in Python, it's pretty easy for me. I;m excited for spring break, it's going to be awesome. I got some plans and don't want to waste anytime. I hope my homework load isn't too heavy and I have a lot of free time.

Almost all caught up in the class. I need to be more careful and not let myself fall behind like i did. I have changed some things in hopes i can improve my grades this six weeks. It shouldnt be hard to keep up with everything once im caught up, python is not hard i just cant let myself get behind.

Reflect 2-13-11

Well thats it, im all caught up with the blog posts. i still need to finish the worksheets and catch up with python. I only have a week to catch up with everything before the six-weeks is over. I hope i can do it. python is fun though, i wonder if by the end of this class i would be able to participate in any of those coding programs. I plan on taking AP comp sci or comp sci 2 next year.

Reflect 2-6-11

Python isnt that hard and im really trying my hardest to catch up on these blog posts. My parents are really on me about my grades. Im glad were working with turtleworld, it reminds me of scratch. I miss scratch, it was so easy and fun. sometimes i return to my old scratch programs at home when i bored. i cant wait till im all caught up with python.

This really got me thinking cause i love paradoxes. they're sooo much fun. like what happens if Pinocchio says "my nose will now grow"? does it grow or not?

Reflect 1-9-11

Ahh im sad break is over but currious to learn what we will be doing this semester. I know Java is what we will be working with but what all does that mean? will it be the same as Jeroo? surley not because Jeroo was so focused on the island and its jeroos and what not. Will it be hard or easy? I hope by the end of the semester i will be actually able to program something useful.

reflect 1-23-11

This week has been quite stressful but by tomorrow things should die down. It is show week so i haven't gotten home before 10 in over a week. And whats more this is the hardest coding we've done yet. I don't quite get it and i miss doing things like scratch and jeroo.

Reflection 1-30-11

I hope now that we are into python i will be able to catch up. My grades have been falling because Ive been sick and stressed recently. things hopefully are clearing up. i went to the doctor today and he prescribed me some antibiotics. Pythons seems to be easier than java and i hope to understand it better than i did java. we shall see.

Reflection

I understand what we're doing in class but I wish I had more time to think about it. Normally I spend time outside of class thinking about what we're learning in class and I understand it even better. I would do that now but all of my free time is being dominated by theater and homework. If I'm not working in the theater then I'm doing LASA's usual load of homework. The concepts that were learning are simple enough, I just cant commit them to memory. The only concept I don't quite understand is the whole "scanner" thing. That always confused me.
